Pay Level
State government, PSU, bank, municipal body
- Allowances “admissible under rules”
Pay rules
Central Government pay matrix आणि संबंधित orders समजण्यासाठी Ministry of Finance च्या Department of Expenditure Central Pay Commission विभागाचा वापर करा.
A recruitment notice may show “Pay Level 6” or a range such as “₹35,400–1,12,400”. The upper figure is not the starting salary and neither figure automatically equals take-home pay. The starting cell, appointment type, probation conditions, posting and admissible allowances determine what the employee actually receives.
What a pay level tells you
Under the Central Government's Seventh CPC structure, a level contains a series of cells in the pay matrix. When a notice names a level, look for the stated initial pay and the rule adopted by that employer. A state department, public-sector undertaking, bank, municipal body or autonomous institute may follow a different structure. Do not paste a Central Government pay-matrix figure onto every Maharashtra recruitment.
Basic pay is only the base
Basic pay is used for later calculations. DA, HRA, transport allowance or another benefit may be added only when the applicable rules permit it. HRA can change with the posting city, government accommodation and the employer's own order. A contract notice offering “consolidated remuneration” may not provide the separate allowances available to a regular employee.
Why gross and in-hand pay differ
Net pay can be lower after an applicable pension contribution, income tax, professional tax, insurance, recoveries or other deductions. This is why a calculator using default percentages produces only a planning estimate. The appointment order and the first salary slip are far stronger evidence than an estimate shared in a social post.
Ask four questions while reading the notice
- Is the post regular, temporary, apprentice or contractual?
- Does the notice state a pay level, fixed stipend or consolidated amount?
- Are different rules used during training or probation?
- Are allowances expressly listed, or merely described as admissible under rules?
For example, do not see “Level 6” and automatically add the latest DA and the highest HRA. First identify the employer, posting and appointment type. Then use our salary calculator with values taken from the notice or an applicable official order.
Where to check the pay rules
The Ministry of Finance's Department of Expenditure Central Pay Commission section publishes Central Government pay material and orders. Treat it as a central reference, not a universal rule. The recruitment notice and appointment terms remain final for a particular post.
